Mission Statement

The WCA and its partners in paddlesport should provide quality experiences at participation and performance levels in competition and recreation, ensuring that canoeists have access to a wide variety of opportunities and resources in an equitable, safe and sustainable environment, while ensuring that members receive tangible, quality services.

Key Targets

In the next five years the WCA will look to:

  1. Increase the number of formal access agreements from 14 to 25.

  2. Establish 10 facilities that offer year-round opportunities for canoeing development.

  3. Maintain and support 1150 active coaches, holding 2100 qualifications.

  4. Increase the number of clubs from 57 to 70.

  5. Increase the number of clubs achieving Clwb Cymru status, which will act as Centres of Local Development from 9 to 20.

  6. Raise participation in canoeing in Wales from 0.5% to 0.7%.

  7. Increase the number of Welsh canoeists in the GB squads from 20 to 25.

  8. Establish 12 Centres of Reigonal Excellence in the competitive disciplines of canoe sport.

  9. To increase the number of users of Canolfan Tryweryn from 40 000 to 50 000 per annum.

  10. To run 19 canoeing events per year.

  11. Increase the membership of the WCA from 4250 to 5000.

  12. Increase the amount of reserves held by WCA from £40k to £120k to ensure the financial viability of the Association.

Performance Indicators

To measure the above objectives, the Association will put in place a series of initiatives, each of which will act as a performance indicator against which progress can be measured.
