Surf Kayaking

Most people’s idea of kayak surfing is catching a wave dropping, chucking your paddle away and bongoing to the beach taking as many boardies out as you can. This is not strictly the best way of getting the most out of your surfing time. As you will find out if you come along to a surf event. Firstly, unlike a lot of sports, there are no big prizes or glory. So there is no pressure to win at all costs. When you are out on the water you are there to enjoy yourself. The atmosphere is very laid back and friendly. As you compete you will learn new moves from fellow paddlers and when to do them. Very quickly your skill will progress and you will start to collect scalps as you progress through the heats. At all events you can see the newest and best surf boats and kit, if you talk nicely to the owners you can have a try. There is an event for whatever level or craft you have - novice, junior, master, high performance, plastic or International. Another good reason to come along is there is always a good party when the wet bit has finished - even if you don’t have a boat or hate surfing you will love the party! One last thing - if you own a camper van, bring it and everyone will love you.
